This site is based on research that studies the link between US immigration needs and local labor market demand. This research agenda is led by Dany Bahar (Brown University and Brookings) and Greg Wright (UC Merced and Brookings).

Project Objectives: A Data-Driven Roadmap
The primary objective of this website is to serve as a go-to resource for compre-hending the U.S. labor market's intricacies and its relationship with immigration policy. Amid escalating labor shortages and market dysfunction, this platform is designed to:
- Extract pivotal insights from our groundbreaking report, A Roadmap For Immigration Reform
- Offer an interactive portal for examining forecasted immigrant labor demands across sectors.
- Foster public dialogue centered on fact-based immigration reform.
By harmonizing data-driven findings with policy needs, our aim is to lay the groundwork for impactful legislative change that addresses both current and forthcoming labor market challenges.
Project Inspiration
This project was born out of an urgent need to address widening gaps in the U.S. labor market and the role immigration plays in filling those gaps. The inspiration came from the seminal Brookings Institution report, "A Roadmap For Immigration Reform," which spotlighted critical issues such as labor shortages, occupational opportunities, and the value of immigrant labor in both specialized and routine roles.
The report served as a catalyst, prompting us to develop an interactive tool that allows stakeholders—be it policymakers, employers, or the general public—to explore labor demand forecasts and the potential impact of immigration reform. By fostering a fact-based public dialogue, we aim to contribute to comprehensive policy changes that can resolve both current and looming challenges in the labor market.
